What’s the movie about?
Nine-year-old Chiron (Alex R. Hibbert), nicknamed “Little,” doesn’t talk much. He eats up the grief caused by his single mother Paula’s (Naomie Harris) crack addiction. It takes a surrogate family, drug dealer Juan (Mahershala Ali) and his girlfriend Teresa (Janelle Monáe), for the boy to slowly open up. Then, as a teenager (Ashton Sanders), Chiron has severe problems in high school – because he is different, having his first homosexual experiences with his best buddy and classmate Kevin (Jharrel Jerome). Finally, in his late 20s, Chiron has shed the victim role. He calls himself Black (Trevante Rhodes) and makes his money as a drug dealer. But a surprise phone call from Kevin (André Holland) triggers something in him: The friend from the past, now a chef, asks Black to visit him in Miami….
